Earmould practical considerations to improve performance in hearing aids:
Fitting hearing aids requires an understanding of how both the software-driven and mechanical plumbing related adjustments influence the acoustic response of a hearing aid. Even with the numerous electronic means in which acoustic parameters can be adjusted, a general understanding of mechanical changes to the ear moulds is important for improving the performance. Hence at House of Hearing we have a wide range of ear moulds in both the style and materials in order to improve the quality of final fit of an hearing instrument.
The influence as to what ear mould material and the styles entirely depends on the hearing loss and professionals need to meet specific gain and output requirements of hearing instrument. This would suggest earmoulds are appropriate for hearing, losses up to about 75 dB HL. While softer materials such as silicone and vinyl are used for hearing losses greater than 75dB HL.
Earmoulds must meet three basic requirements:-
a) Acoustic seal- all amplified sound to the eardrum
b) Comfort- Ear mould should not cause irritation to the external ear.
c) Aesthetic appearance- The ear moulds need to be inconspicuous as possible in the external ear of the patient.
And even though feedback cancellation exist in many modern hearing aids these three requirements still hold true.
We process and supply many types of Noise suppression devices to suit all positive needs and applications.
Whether your patients want to stand out or to blend in we have earmould materials styles and colour that will fit their tastes —– and their ears just about perfectly.

Regular style earmould
Regular style earmoulds are used with hearing aids that have an external receiver that is snapped into the earmold (usually body-type aids). Historically, this was the earliest type of custom earmold.
The standard receiver ring is available in metal or plastic, and the earmold can be made in both hard and soft materials. |
Skeleton earmould
This is a popular style of earmold because it effectively seals the canal while leaving an open space in the concha to enhance appearance.
This style can be made from most materials and can be ordered with most available acoustic options. This style is also chosen by many dispensers since it can be easily converted to other style sif necessary. |
Regular with Tubing
| This economical earmold is similar to the regular style, but it is for use with head-worn instruments. It fills the entire concha for maximum bulk, but is slightly shelled out for better appearance. |
Semi Skeleton
| Clients may have difficulty with earmould insertion due to lack of manual dexterity or hardened ear texture. This earmold addresses these problems, as portions of the earmould’s concha area are removed. |
Canal Lok
| When canal lok or concha abnormalities make retention of the standard canal style not possible or desirable, this style can be used. A finger-like projection along the bottom of the concha holds the mold in place. This earmold is easy for the wearer to insert and remove. |
Canal-Lok with Helix
| The addition of a helix to the canal-lok mold provides an additional retention without sacrificing the cosmetic advantages of the canal-lok style. |
Standard Shell
| Suitable for high/power hearing aids |
Skeleton
| Suitable for mild to moderate hearing aid. |
Semi-skeleton
| Suitable for those with difficulty in ear mould insertion due to lack of manual dexterity or hardened ear texture. |
Canal Lok
| Suitable for those with Concha abnormalities. |
Body Worn
| Suitable for those with pocket or Body worn hearing aids. |
Swimming Mould
| The addition of a helix to the canal-lok mold provides an additional retention without sacrificing the cosmetic advantages of the canal-lok style. |
Tubing Expander Tool
| A unique tool for stretching earmould tubing. Allows one tube to be fitted over another. can also provide a tighter fit in eartip or earmould, prior to cementing. |
Polishing Mop
| Soft 100mm Polishing Mop with 12 folds for use with Heavy Duty polisher. |
Professional Otoscope
| A high quality otoscope with a comfortable handle and variable fingertip light intensity control. Supplied complete with three sterilisable metal speculae in a study storage/ carrying case. A useful swivel-type magnifier is hinged into the viewing lens for close-up examinations. |
